Native Flutes and Videos by Odell Borg
Odell’s flutes are a joy to play. His mission, that we heartily encourage here at The WILD Institute, is to introduce as many people as possible to playing the Native flute. Odell makes each flute from a solid piece of domestic plantation-grown wood, finished with three coats of a non-toxic hardening oil for durablity and clarity of sound, and each is precision-tuned so that it will blend perfectly with other instruments.
Each flute comes with a “How to Play” CD, instruction booklet, and fingering charts. Throughout the booklet, you are encouraged to simply play—you do not need to know how to read music, and you do not even need the booklet to get started. Each flute has 6 holes and a leather tie to convert it into a 5 hole flute (easier to start out with).
As you consider your flute, keep in mind that the longer the flute, the deeper the tone. And that cedar gives a warmer tone, while walnut gives a clearer tone and is more durable.
